Daniels admits to ’99 murder

Ronnie Daniels of Sumter County pled guilty Monday morning in Greene County Criminal Court to the robbery and murder of Percy M. Norwood in July 1999.

He was sentenced to a life sentence for each count; the two sentences will run concurrently.

Daniels also has two cases pending in Choctaw County, said District Attorney Greg Griggers.

One of Daniels’ accomplices, Anthony Harris, has already received a life sentence for Norwood’s murder.

The other two accomplices, Dewayne Daniels and Larry Lee Hall, in the crime were not involved in the murder but have been sent to prison for the robbery.

The robbery and murder took place at a store in Gainesville.

In other action before Judge Eddie Hardaway Jr., Johnny Brown pled guilty to two counts of receiving stolen property, first degree, and escape, first degree. He was sentenced to four years in prison. Restitution has not been determined.

Brown still has a case pending in Sumter County.

Julius Gales pled guilty to two counts of receiving stolen property, first degree, and two counts of burglary III. He was sentenced to three years for each count, which will run concurrently.

Christopher Rancher pled guilty to burglary and possession of marijuana. He was sentenced to two years for the burglary count and four years for the possession count.
