Santa has made his list and now he is checking it twice, because it will be the last weekend opportunity to finish buying all of those much-needed gifts. Why do people procrastinate no one really knows, while others purchase many of their gifts during the after Thanksgiving blitz. Nonetheless, this is the last official weekend of holiday shopping until December 25.

Many local businesses are eagerly awaiting the expected shoppers. One of Demopolis popular venues, Wal-Mart has been restocking hourly according to manager, John Whitehead.

He knows that some people will take advantage of competing with larger venues in larger cities, like Meridian and Tuscaloosa.

But impending traffic may hinder some of the shoppers.

Nonetheless, he is assuring his staff continues to restock shelves to meet the needs of the shoppers.

Radio Shack is not seemingly optimistic about business booming this weekend, manager said, "we don’t expect a lot of business this weekend." She adds, "it has not been a good year." Due its bad location, the store is excited about moving into their new office on Highway 80 after the first of next year.

The number of people shopping for last minute gifts may go into the very last second on Christmas Eve. A.J’s manager, Rosie Black said, "this season has been good." She admits the more popular item this Christmas has been the new official NASCAR jacket and football jerseys.

It is very unpredictable this time of the year. People are still deciding what to buy for their loved ones, Shalia Bingham from Uniontown said, "I have yet to decide what to buy for my mother. But I have purchased most of my children’s gifts."

Although, stores are hoping for a huge turnout, local industries may be competing with larger venues in larger cities.
