There has been a new face running the show at Marengo County High School in Dixon Mills. With the start of the war in Iraq, Principal George Green, long time member of the United States Army was deployed overseas leaving David Miller in charge.

On February 10, 2003 Green was activated to serve his country in the war against Iraq. Longtime teacher and administrative assistant Miller was selected as interim principal until Green’s return.

Miller received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science from Alabama A&M and has been teaching Agra-science for the school for the last 19 years.

Miller has been in charge of the 479 children that attend kindergarten through 12 grades at the school and thinks that while he has been in charge that they have done some great things.

“There were some days that were better than others, but overall it was very good,” Miller said.

With principal Green set to return from service on February 17 Miller is excited about his return to the classroom.

“I enjoyed my time as principal, but I’m ready to go back to the classroom,” Miller said.

Miller expressed his thanks to the staff of the school and would like to thank them for all their help.

“We have the best teaching staff in the State of Alabama,” Miller said.

Marengo County Superintendent Luke Hallmark said that Miller was the right choice for the school during Green’s absence.

“Miller has served under Green for sometime now and we felt that he was the best suited to step right in during Green’s leave.” Hallmark said.

Hallmark also said that Miller has done a very good job during his time as principal and would like to thank him for his hard work.

“Miller has done a good job. He has come in at a time when Green was called up and the school hasn’t missed a beat,” Hallmark said.
