James Bryan Whitfield Jr.

Demopolis

James Bryan Whitfield Jr., 85, of Demopolis, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Aaron Raulerson officiating.

Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

He was a captain in the U.S. Marines and served in the South Pacific in World War II. He was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a member and past president of the Demopolis Rotary Club.

Mr. Whitfield was director and later became president of Commercial Bank. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in accounting and later a law degree.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Bryan Whitfield Sr.

He is survived by a sister, Margie W. Braswell of Demopolis; a niece, Marie Barksdale of Oxford, Miss.; a great niece, Margaret Barksdale; and a great nephew, Lewis Barksdale of Clarksdale, Miss.

Pallbearers will be Archie Bird, Dusty Bird, Skippy Caldwell, John Northcutt, Billy Traeger III and David Turner.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 560, Demopolis, Ala. 36732.

Patsy Irwin O’Neal

Tuscaloosa

Patsy Irwin O’Neal, 68, of Tuscaloosa, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Services were held Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.

Burial was held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park under the direction of Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Holt. She graduated from Holt High School, worked at Gulf States Paper Corp. in Tuscaloosa and moved to Demopolis in 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Demopolis.

Patsy never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam O’Neal Barnette (Dudley) of Tuscaloosa; a son, Mike O’Neal (Jane) of Demopolis; sister, Peggy Dyer of Tuscaloosa; nieces, Diana Costa of Tuscaloosa and Sherry Bell of Indiana; a nephew, Bill Dyer of Birmingham; parents, Harry Edward Irwin and Mary Barton Irwin of Tuscaloosa; Clair Courtney (Matt), Matthew Albritton, Palmer O’Neal, Ann Blake and Noah Barnette.

Pallbearers were Tim Collins, Matt Courtney, Michael Barton, Bill Dyer, Danny O’Neal and Jim Stanford.

Honorary pallbearers were the staff of the TSICU Unit – DCH RMC, Dr. Jeanne Lipscomb, employees of the West Alabama Regional Commission and the staff and friends of Clara Verner Towers.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Children’s Hands-On Museum of Tuscaloosa.

Charles Foreman Sr.

Demopolis

Services for Deacon Charles Foreman Sr., of Demopolis, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Gallion.

The remains will lie in state at the church Thursday beginning at noon. Masonic hour will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 at the funeral home chapel.

Burial with full military honors will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles S. Foreman Scholarship Program at Robertson Banking Company for students planning to attend Tuskegee University.

Johnny G. Lucy Jr.

Dixons Mills

Services for Johnny G. Lucy Jr., of Dixons Mills, will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the El Shaddai A.O.H. Church on Highway 10 in Dixons Mills with Elder Gregory Lucy officiating.

The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Public viewing will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7.

Burial will be held at the Polly Robinson Cemetery in Dixons Mills under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

Sam Sanders

Demopolis

Sam Sanders, of Demopolis, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Greensboro Health Care.

Services are incomplete and will be announced later by Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

Franklin Hurst

Linden

Franklin Hurst, 68, of Linden, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at the O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Prcs. James Martin and Rev. Mike Allen officiating.

Burial was held in Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.

He was born July 17, 1935, in Pensacola, Fla. He was a crew leader at the Gulf States paper mill and a member of the Magnolia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Hurst; and a sister, Janie Kaiser.

Mr. Hurst is survived by his wife, Betty J. Hurst of Linden; daughters, Cynthia Wood of Sweet Water, Nedra Bradford of Pine Hill and Glynis Busby of Orrville; sons, Thomas Hurst and Mark Hurst, both of Magnolia, and DeWayne Skinner of Thomaston; his children’s mother, Sara Bell of Magnolia; a brother, Billy Hurst of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Maria Shelton of Demopolis, Linda Shelby and Shirley Gafford, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Deborah Hewitt of Tuscaloosa; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Mark Hanson, Kenneth McCrory, Bill Cook, Gene Fowler, Scott McClure and John Sheffield.
