DEMOPOLIS–The First Presbyterian Church of Demopolis is planning its 18th Annual World Ministry Conference for February 12-15, 2004. This conference was original started back in 1985 with the vision of bringing back some of the missionaries and letting them tell their stories to the people of the church.

“This church since the beginning of this conference has spent close to $600,000 in support of its missionaries here and abroad,” Rev. Tommy Carr.

The keynote speaker for this event is Dr. Henry Krabbendam, Professor of Biblical Studies at Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, Georgia. In addition to his teaching ministry, Dr. Krabbendam has been directly involved in the ministry in Uganda for twenty years.

His vision is to expand a budding orphan and Christian School ministry. There are between three and four million orphans in Uganda. He has also served as a special advisor to director Steven Spielberg during the filming of The Prince of Egypt due to its religious background.

In addition, the conference will feature Andy and Bev Warren, missionaries to Ethiopia; Beth Acton, Bible translator in New Guinea; Kedrick Levy, representing Desire Street Ministries in New Orleans; and Freddie Charleston of the Marengo Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Rev. Carr believes the support for missions and missionaries is one of the reasons why the Presbyterian Church of America is the fastest growing denomination in the nation.

“Everyone is welcome to attend this conference. All we ask is that you please call ahead to 334-289-3895, so we know about how much food to have,” Rev. Carr said.
