UWA men’s basketball fall to North Alabama

FLORENCE, AL- The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team fell 85-62 to North Alabama (9-13, 4-5) on Monday night in Florence, Ala. Cliff Mathis led the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting while also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.

The Tigers trailed 40-27 at the half as the Lions connected on seven first half three-pointers. West Alabama shot 38.3 percent for the game as North Alabama shot 41.2 percent, but the Tigers committed 20 turnovers in the game.

Carlos Wharton scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for West Alabama. Jared Hembree added nine points for the Tigers, while teammate Courtney Brown chipped in with eight points and three assists. Adam Ruffin scored six points for the Tigers and Issac Greenwood pulled down seven rebounds.

Pervis Key scored a game-high 17 points to led the Lions while also grabbing eight rebounds. Josh Bryant contributed 15 points, while teammate Orlando Springer had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Chad Jones added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lions.
