UWA falls to Central Ark.

RUSSELLVILLE- Randal Minton went 2-for-4 with one RBI, however the West Alabama offense could only scratch out two runs as the Tigers fell to Central Arkansas (2-3) by the score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon.

The Bears broke a scoreless tie in the top half of the fourth inning, scoring three runs. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the fourth with one run, only to see UCA score one in the top of the fifth inning. West Alabama would add one run in the seventh, but was never able to threaten the Bear lead.

Brandon Boles picked up a pair of singles and a stolen base for UWA, while teammate Dustin Carter went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Jason Floyes also added a hit, a run scored and a stolen base.

Jason Herman started the game for UWA and lasted three innings, allowing no runs on a mere one hit to go along with a pair of strikeouts. Senior Michael Avalon (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs, all earned, on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Zak Clark paced the UCA attack, going 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI. Phillip Franklin chipped in with a double and one RBI. Drew Parr (2-0) went five strong innings for UCA, yielding one earned run on four hits to pick up the win. Jeremy Mason notched the save by allowing three hits in two scoreless innings of relief.

The Tigers move to 4-3 overall and return to action on Saturday when they face Arkansas Tech in a doubleheader scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Russellville, Ark.
