The victim of a Dec. 28 hunting accident in Greene County is scheduled to be sent home Thursday from DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Daniel C. Langford, 31, of Tuscaloosa, remains in a semi-comatose condition, said his mother, Barabara Langford. However, she said he is responding to treatment.

Langford has come a long way from a point on the Tuesday after the Sunday accident when he was declared dead. His mother was discussing the issue of donating organs when he apparently came back to life.

Daniel Langford has fought through many complications including Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a reaction to a drug in which the body can have rashes and lesions that look like a burn victim.

Mrs. Langford thanked the many friends and visitors who had brought comfort to the family over the time he has spent in critical then serious condition at DCH.

Langford and two other men, Michael Powell of Fosters and Anthony Averette of Tuscaloosa, were hunting illegally on Silver Dollar Island in an area of deep brush in northeast Greene County near the Black Warrior River and near the Hale County line.

Powell shot Langford in the head.

“Langford got in the line of fire,” said Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac.
