UWA women beat Railsplitters

LIVINGSTON, AL- Veronica Lee had 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting and three assists, as West Alabama defeated Lincoln Memorial (17-7, 6-5) 70-62 on Monday in Pruitt Hall to improve to 9-2 in Gulf South Conference play.

The Tigers shot 48.1 percent from the field, including 3-of-5 (60 percent) from behind the three-point line, en route to a 34-29 lead at the half. West Alabama connected on 12-of-24 shots (50 percent) in the second half and limited the Railsplitters to 37.5 percent shooting for the game.

Margo Porter scored 13 points to go along with three assists and two steals for UWA. Mallorie Kerby had nine points while grabbing six rebounds, while teammate Yolanda Thomas added eight points and six rebounds. Nikki Jones contributed eight points and six rebounds for the Tigers.

Madeline Richards led the Railsplitters with 15 points, including four made three-pointers. Karmella Wynne and Leah Moore scored 11 points each for Lincoln Memorial. Hillary Ross pulled down a game-high eight rebounds while also scoring eight points.

The Tigers (17-6, 9-2) return to action on Saturday when they host Valdosta State for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
