Suspects fleeing deputies nabbed

Suspects in a robbery from Jefferson County were apprehended by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday and Wednesday. One suspect remains at large.

There were four total suspects in the robbery.

One was apprehended by Bessemer Police. The other three fled south. They were stopped in a traffic stop by the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Department. However, the suspects fled the traffic stop.

Greene County Sheriff Johnny L. Isaac and his deputies caught one of the suspects Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m. at the Knoxville, Ala. exit of Interstate 20/59. Another suspect was apprehended Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. two miles south of Knoxville.

The two suspects were turned over to Bessemer Police, Isaac said. According to officials at the Bessemer Jail, Elix Ponce and Jose Reyes were both charged Wednesday with robbery I. They remain in the jail under $250,000 bond each.

The search continues for the third suspect that ventured into Greene County.

Detective Wood of the Bessemer Police Department was not available at press time to provide details of the initial robbery case.
