On the strength of a career-best 32 points in an 83-76 win over West Florida on Monday, in a game that Head Coach Amanda Marks called one of the biggest wins she has had in her three-year UWA career, Tiger guard Veronica Lee has been named GSC East Division Player of the Week for the period ending on Feb. 24.

The win assured UWA of the number-one seed at the GSC Tournament in Tupelo, Miss., next week and gave Marks the chance to win her second outright GSC East Division Championship in three years if the Tigers can win over Montevallo on Saturday.

Lee, a sophomore from Columbia, Miss., averaged 21.5 points per game over a week that saw the Tigers open with an impressive 63-45 win over Valdosta State and close with a thrilling comeback win over West Florida. She shot 50 percent from the floor for the week (11-22), while making 18-of-22 shots from the free throw line (81.8 percent).

Lee has led the Tigers in scoring in 13-of-25 games and is currently the team leader, averaging 14.2 points per contest. West Alabama currently stands third in the South Regional rankings and with Thursday night’s win, have their second 20-win season in the last three years.
