Ken Tucker Named Training Coordinator

For Weyerhaeuser’s P&P Manufacturing Sites

Ken Tucker has been named Education and Training Coordinator for Weyerhaeuser Company’s Pulp&Paper Manufacturing group.

In his new job, Ken will coordinate training for all Weyerhaeuser’s pulp and paper operations in the U.S. and Canada. The appointment is effective Feb. 16 and was announced by Gary Wong, vice president for manufacturing technology for Weyerhaeuser’s pulp and paper business.

Ken, who is currently Director of Training, Education and Development at the Pine Hill containerboard operation, will continue to have an office at the Pine Hill training center.

A native of Marengo County, Ken completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science and his Ph.D. degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

He also has an MBA in Management from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Ken and his wife Mary, have four daughters and live in Demopolis. He also serves as a Marengo County commissioner

In addition to working with training at Pine Hill, Ken most recently had human resources responsibilities at the mill, as well.

Prior to the Pine Hill position, he was the Director of the Center for Forestry, Paper and Chemical Technology for the Alabama Technology Network.

He also held a position as HR director for Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital and Associate Professor of Management and Small Business Institute Director at the University of West Alabama.

Wong said that in the new coordinator role, Ken will lead the effort to cross pollinate best practices across the system.

He will support the training leaders at the company’s pulp and paper mills in their training and education needs and assist in researching and securing federal and state grants.

Ken will serve as a liaison between mill training leaders and the Strategic Education Center of Expertise (SECoE), work with purchasing to negotiate best contracts for common education modules, and coordinate with other network teams (Papermaking, Fiberline, Power&Recovery etc.) to support training and development initiatives.
