Positions up for grabs so far

It’s getting very close to election time around the five counties that make up the Demopolis Times’ coverage area. Marengo, Sumter, Perry, Hale, and Greene Counties all have positions that are currently up for election.

In Marengo County, there are two seats for the County Commission as well as two seats on the Board of Education. So far in the County Commission only Ken Tucker has qualified for district 2 and three people George Baldwin, Kevin Martin and Trezzvant Hopson have all qualified for district 4.

Clifton McKnight has qualified for the Board of Education district 3, while Barbara Pritchett has qualified for district 5.

In Sumter County, there are also two seats on the Board of Education up for election districts 1 and 2. There are currently no people qualified for these positions.

In Perry County, there are two seats on the Board of Education up for election districts 3 and 4. There are currently no people qualified for these positions.

In Hale County, there are two seats on the County Commission up for election districts 2 and 3. There have been three people Lois Fields, Ollie Evans and Joey Hamilton who have all qualified for these seats.

In Greene County, there are two seats on the Board of Education up for election. There are currently no people qualified for these positions.

The Democratic qualifying started on March 6 and will end at 5 pm on April 2, 2004. Anyone interested in running for a position needs to file with the Democratic Party between these dates.
