And while you won’t find any golfers with green jackets in Demopolis, there will be one that will walk away from the course knowing that they are the best there is in these parts.

For the first time in three years, the Demopolis Rotary Club Annual Charity Golf Tournament returns to the Demopolis Country Club for a match play event like no other in West Alabama.

Come Wednesday, April 14 there might not be any caddie’s in white jumpers. There may not be any familiar names like Woods, Mickelson, Faldo, Couples, Palmer or Love. And there may not be any strolls across the Ben Hogan Bridge or always terrifying splashes in Rae’s Creek. But there will be plenty of West Alabama golfers enjoying a day of fun, competitive golf to help benefit many needy charitable organizations.

The stage is set for the 31st Annual Demopolis Rotary Club Charity Golf Tournament and so is the location. This year’s event will return to the Demopolis Country Club, which along with this year’s new format should give golfers of West Alabama a more competitive golfing experience.

With the tournament’s return to the Demopolis Country Club there is also a return to match play this year. Something that has been missing over the tournament’s last three years of play.

“Over the past three years everyone who has participated in this tournament has come to enjoy it thoroughly,” Demopolis Rotary Vice President Mike Grayson said. “Rex Bible has done a fantastic job with this tournament through the past years and we would like to thank him for all his hard work and help.”

“This year we have an opportunity to return to the Demopolis Country Club and the members of the Demopolis Rotary Club in turn thought it be best if we to return to match-play.”

The return to match play is sure to make this year’s event a bit more competitive, with as many as 32 players competing in a medal play championship flight to determine who will become the next City of Demopolis Champion, and over 100 other players competing in various double elimination match play flights.

It may not be Augusta, but for many golfers in West Alabama it’s the next best thing.
