EUTAW-And then there were two… Kevin Long, 20 of Eutaw was arrested yesterday and charged with theft of property first degree in connection with the Greenetrack theft on March 10. Greene County Sheriff said they knew that Long was connected some how, but just had to investigate further.

“We knew from the start that Kevin Long was a suspect. It was pretty much open and shut case,” Isaac said.

An employee of Greenetrack tampered with the Bonanza Bingo game on Mar. 10, which resulted in his companion winning the $6,000 jackpot. Greenetrack thought this win was a little fishy because the same jackpot was paid out only one month earlier. Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said there is no way that should have happened because those jackpots are based on the amount of times the game has been played and is suppose to be random.

“It’s a system of check and balances and that game shouldn’t have paid out the jackpot,” Isaac said.

Maurice Cortez Leftwich, 21 of Eutaw was arrested on Mar. 16 for theft of property first degree. His bond was set at $10,000.

Isaac said that Greenetrack reported the crime back on the 10 and they had evidence that Leftwich tampered with the game so his friend could walk away $6,000 richer. He also said that Leftwich’s job at Greenetrack included setting up the bingo board, which is called ‘pre-call’ and he was also a caller.

Isaac said that this was the first reported crime at the Greenetrack since bingo first started and defiantly the first one of this kind. He also said that Greenetrack has taken steps to ensure that this type of crime doesn’t happen again in the near future.

“We believe this to be the first crime committed at Greenetrack,” Isaac said.

Leftwich was released on Mar. 19 after posting the $10,000 bond that was placed on him. He also said that the $6,000 hasn’t been recovered either.
