Ro’ing them down: Roark no-hits Clark County

Though they didn’t get a chance to perform under their new stadium lights in Tuesday’s home pairing with the Clarke County Lady Bulldogs, the Demopolis High School Lady Tigers softball team shined anyway as they drop the Lady Bulldogs 10-0 in five innings.

Senior pitcher Lauren Roark outshined them all with her performance on the mound, as she picked up a five inning no hitter. Roark went five complete innings earning 12K’s, while giving up no runs on no hits and one walk.

The Lady Bulldogs could not find a way to put bat to ball against Roark as she alone retired the side in the first three innings of play. And with an ace like Roark on the mound, the Lady Tigers were able to turn their full attention to hitting, where they collected 10 runs on eight hits.

Roark led the way for the Lady Tigers in that department as well with three hits, a solo inside the park home run and one RBI. Following behind Roark was junior Brittany Thorne with two doubles and one RBI. Heather Wright also contributed with a stand up double and two RBIs in the bottom of the third inning.

With the win the lady Tigers are now 11-7 on the season and will travel today to Bibb County for a rematch with last year’s 4A runner up.

In the JV game that followed the varsity game Tuesday, Freshmen Blakley Tartt hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Lady Tigers the one run, 7-6 win against the Lady Bulldogs. The JV Lady Tigers are now 5-3 on the season.
