BASEBALL

GEORGE SPENCE DAY – The 13th Annual George Spence Day will be held Saturday, may 15, at the Demopolis Sports Plex. Dixie Youth boys and girls (ages 4 through 16) will be participating in the fun day events.

Activities include: face painting, rock wall climbing, giant slides and a dunking booth. Events will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day with a dance to be held that evening at 8 p.m. Admission to the dance is $3.00 per person and will be limited to kids age 8-15.

2004 EAST WEST All-STAR GAME – The George C. Spence Memorial East West All-Star Baseball Game, originally scheduled for May 11, at Demopolis High School has been changed, due to DHS playing in the state championship game this weekend.

The new date for the East West All-Star game will be Tuesday, May 18, at the Demopolis High School baseball field. This game is sanctioned by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) and will feature the best senior baseball players in West Alabama.

Tickets are $2, and may be purchased from any member of The Demopolis Lions Club. Proceeds from the game will be donated to Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Allen Bishop at 289-8217.

SOFTBALL

Men’s Independent Softball League – Registration is now open. Season is scheduled to begin Monday, May 24. Registration deadline is Friday, May 14.

Applications with roster forms and an $80.00 non-refundable deposit are due at this time. League fee will be determined by the total number of teams registered to play. Applications and roster forms can be picked up at City Hall or the Recreation Office. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting (only one coach or representative per team) Tuesday, May 18 at 5:30 pm at the Recreation Office at the Sports-Plex. Questions? HUNTING/FISHING

WOMEN’S FISHING CLINIC – The Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) will be hosting a fishing clinic for women on June 19, at Old Spring Hill Plantation in Eufaula, AL.

This will be a fun filled day of bass and bream fishing with basic instruction on equipment selection and fishing techniques.

This fishing clinic is an AWF Outdoor Women’s Network Event, a program of the Alabama Wildlife Federation, whose mission is to promote and provide direct hunting, angling and other outdoor recreation opportunities for women in a manner that increases personal participation in target outdoor activities and the AWF.

The cost of the event is $40 for AWF members and $65 for non-members. Space is limited to 20 participants. Advanced registration is required to hold a spot. For more information on this event or to register, call the Alabama Wildlife Federation at 1-800-822-WILD.

LAKE DEMOPOLIS OPEN BASS TRAIL – Two bass fishing Tournaments remain scheduled at Lake Demopolis for fishermen who are interested in competing in this year’s Classic. The dates are: May 15 and June 12. There is a $50 joining fee that will go to help fund this year’s Classic held on July 17.

BRAXTON SENIOR ADULT DAYCARE 2nd ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT AND BENEFIT – This tournament is scheduled for Saturday May 22nd at the Ravine Golf Course and will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Registration forms and payments must be submitted together. Select your own foursome, or if you are unable to organize a foursome you will be placed in one.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Seniors of Braxton’s Senior Adult Daycare.

GREENE CO. 5TH ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT – Alabama Power Service Organization (South Chapter) is proud to present the Greene Co. 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This tournament is scheduled for Friday, May 28th with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at The Ravine Golf Course in Demopolis.
