UWA doubles pleasure against William Carey

HATTIESBURG, MS – The University of West Alabama softball team won two games over William Carey on Tuesday, taking game one 9-2 and game two by the score of 15-0.

Christen Chaney (5-14) picked up the win for the Tigers in game one, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings pitched and striking out seven batters. Jessica Jacquay went 4-for-4 with two RBI for UWA, while Jessica Gordon added two hits.

Tamara Neal went 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI for West Alabama. Katie Breneman added a triple, while Haley Brown had one hit and two RBI. Whitney Woodington went 1-for-1 with one RBI.

In game two, the Tigers outscored William Carey 15-0 for the five-inning victory. Heather Shugart (2-7) earned the win for UWA, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing no runs and only two hits. Woodington threw one hitless inning for the Tigers.

Julie Burkett went 3-for4 with a triple, a double and five RBI for the Tigers in game two. Casey Cockrum added two doubles, a triple and three RBI, while Shannon Goggins went 3-for-3 with a triple, four runs scored and one RBI. Gordon went 2-for-4 in game two for UWA, and Jess Butrica added one hit and two RBI.

The Tigers move to 11-33 overall and return to action on Saturday when they host North Alabama in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
