The Alabama Senate joined the State House of Representatives Thursday in overriding Governor Bob Riley’s veto of a bill authorizing Sunday liquor sales in Perry County.

The bill, introduced for the Perry County Commission by Representative Bobby Singleton, will allow sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday, after 2 p.m., upon the approval of the county commission or the governing bodies of the municipalities within the county.

City governments in Perry County will be be able to approve Sunday liquor sales within their corporate limits, and the county commission will be able to allow sale in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Other bills recently passed for Perry County include another bill introduced by Singleton which authorizies the county commission to increase court costs in civil and criminal cases. The money will be used for the operation of the county jail and educational purposes.

The construction of a new county jail in Marion has yet to be completed.

Another bill introduced by State Senator Charles Steele provides for additional working days for the members of the county Board of Registrars, retroactive to October 1, 2001.
