DEMOPOLIS – For the defending 4A state champion Demopolis High Tigers it only took three games to capture another Area 8 championship this weekend as they knock off the Dallas County Lady Hornets again on Saturday 7-0.

“We did what we wanted to do this weekend,” DHS head coach Wayne Harris said. “Which was to be playing at home come Tuesday, and that’s what we’ll be doing.”

Though the lady Tigers had went as many as eight innings the day before with the Lady Hornets, Saturday proved to be a different game, but with the same results.

Mallory Miller got the start again for the Lady Hornets as did Kelly Keasler for the Lady Tigers. Miller had shut down the Lady Tigers the day before, but not this time. After going two strong innings and looking to be in full control against the Lady Tigers, Miller began to crumble on the mound giving up hit after hit through the next four innings.

But it was not due to any weakness or flaws in pitching. Miller’s fall would be credited to the watch full eye of coach Harris.

“I noticed we were taking a lot of first pitch strikes against Miller,” Harris said. “So we changed up our strategy and began to swing the bats a little earlier in the count which really made a big difference in today’s score.”

By taking the first Miller pitch, the Lady Tigers were able to collect as many as seven runs on nine hits and take a dominate lead that would eventually leave the visiting Hornets physically and emotionally beaten and wanting to climb back on the bus and head to Selma.

Senior Lauren Roark was one of three leaders at the plate for the lady tigers Saturday as she went 2-for-3 with a double and 3RBIs. Senior India Chancelor and senior Timie Lee also went 2-for-3 on the day, as Chancelor picked up a single, a double and 2RBIs.

Following the seniors were junior Kristin Etheridge who went 2-for-4 with 1RBI, as junior Brittany Thorne and sophomore Hunter Lewis each collected one hit apiece. Kealser (14-3) put together another stellar performance going seven innings collecting 11K’s, while giving up no runs on one hit with one walk.

The Lady Tigers have now won 12 of their last 13 and are just eight wins away from another state championship, as they prepare to move into the AHSAA playoffs today with a Sub-State pairing with the Bibb County Lady Choctaws. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
