DEMOPOLIS-A local Demopolis resident wants to give the rest of the residents of Demopolis another option for their children’s birthday parties. Allison Moore, chairman of the Christmas on the River Children’s Day parade for the last nine years was looking for somewhere to hold her daughter’s birthday party but all the locations in Demopolis were booked, so they didn’t have one for her, but this made her decide to do something about it for the other parents in the area.

“There aren’t enough places to have a child’s birthday party in Demopolis because people get tired of McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and Mr. G’s all the time,” Moore said.

She is in the process of opening a business on 112 Strawberry Street, which is downtown next to the old Ace Hardware building and the hole where Traeger’s Bakery use to be called The Playhouse. If that name sounds familiar to some people it’s the same name as businesses in Northport and Tuscaloosa.

She said she has a friend who opened a business about 14 years ago in Tuscaloosa called the Playhouse. She also said it stayed open for about five to six years and she decided to close it due to the crime in the area, but she relocated to Northport and opened the Playhouse Too.

“She was going to sale the equipment, but I was getting tired of my job and wanted a change of scenery so I decided to buy the stuff and go into business,” Moore said.

She said the Playhouse is an indoor playground facility and birthday party place. She said the hours of operation will be Thursday-Sunday 12-4 p.m. and the cost for general admission $3.99 plus sales tax.

“The general admission allows the children access to all of the games and activities for the whole four hour period,” Moore said.

She said there would be a moonwalk, a ball pit, a toddler area, four different video games, stuffed animal crane, and many other things for children to enjoy. She also said there will be concessions also such as fountain drinks, popcorn, and candy.

“There is also a private room for birthday parties and we can also close the business for a private birthday if they wish,” Moore said.

She said that adults must accompany their children while they’re at the Playhouse. She also said the age range they are targeting is from toddler to ten year olds.

“Everyone is welcome to come to the Playhouse because the moonwalks can handle adults, but we’re going for the younger children,” Moore said.

She said they are currently taking birthday reservations for May and June. She also said they will do everything as far as setting up the birthday with gift bags, cleaning up afterwards all the parents need to do is bring the child and the cake.

“We are planning to open for business May 15,” Moore said, “If you want to book a birthday party please call 287-0026 and receive $10 off.”
