Monaleto C. Irby, a native of Demopolis and a 1993 graduate of Demopolis High School and a 1997 graduate of Jacksonville State University has been elected to the Board of Director for Habitat for Humanity of Calhoun County.

Irby, 29 was nominated by past board chairman, David L. Zeigler, who is also the Director of Multicultural Services at JSU.

Irby was required to submit a resume’ and a biographical sketch after which he was unanimously elected to the board.

Irby the son Laverne Irby Biggs and Rosetta I. Hill is also actively involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calhoun County and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he serves as president of the graduate chapter that covers Anniston, Talladega, and Gadsden, Alabama.

Irby is often a featured speaker at Youth Forums in Calhoun County.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that, since 1976, built more than 50,000 houses with families throughout the United States and over 100,000-plus houses in communities around the world.

By 2005, Habitat houses will be sheltering 1 million people.

Local Habitat affiliates coordinate house building and select partner families.

Irby, who resides in Oxford, Ala., attends Friendship Baptist Church in Anniston and is a member of the Christian Chapel Baptist Church, where the Rev. Fred D. Moore is pastor.
