William E. Brown Sr.

Services for William E. Brown, 83, of York, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2004, at St. James Episcopal Church in Livingston with Father Richard R. Losch officiating.

Burial will be held in the York Cemetery under the direction of Bumpers Funeral Home in York.

He was born Jan. 27, 1921 in Water Valley, Miss. He has been a resident of York since 1935.

Mr. Brown was awarded the Bronze Star in World War II and retired from the American Can Company in 1981. He dearly loved his extended family, his church, his friends, his country, golf, fishing and the Crimson Tide.

He was a true Southern gentleman who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by Annabella Rumley Brown in 1995 after 49 years of marriage; a son, Baxter Bowles Brown; and a sister, Ruth Duffee.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, William E. Brown Jr. of Roswell, Ga., Wayne Ellis of Meridian, Miss., Aubrey Ellis of Livingston, John Allen Mitchell of Meridian, Miss. and Pam Wooldridge of York. He felt blessed with his five nieces, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bernie, Clarke, Mike and Tony Mitchell, Darrin Ellis and Britt Wooldridge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Cobb, Cecil Harvell, John Allen Mitchell, John Nichols, Price Tillery and Johnny Wooldridge.

Memorials may be made to the St. James Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 446, Livingston, Ala.

Sara Acker Hanson

Livingston

Sara Acker Hanson, 74, of Livingston, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Sumter health and Rehab in York.

Services were held Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Livingston First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Welch and Rev. Tim Meadows officiating.

Burial followed in Livingston Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bumpers Funeral Home in York.

She was a long time homemaker who became a successful daycare owner in her later years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Livingston First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Ascker; three sisters, Floree Aycock (and husband, Bob), Kathleen Kilgore and Lavenia Etheridge (and husband, Walter).

Mrs. Hanson is survived by her son, Russell Hanson (Sherry) of Livingston; four daughters, Pat Fair (Ben) of Gordo, Carol Welson (Mack) of York, and Fran Knight (Kirk) and Beverly Conway (Tim), both of Livingston; a brother, Billy Acker (Margaret); a sister, Ruth McDaniel (O’Neal); a brother-in-law, Dewitt Kilgore, all of Carrollton; a sister-in-law, Margie Acker of Forkland; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rod Etheridge, Mike Acker, Dennis McDaniel, Tim McDaniel, Ken Acker, Allen Hall, Russell Williams and Jamie Ware.

David Earl Ward, 62, of Linden, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at UAB Hospital.

Services were held Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Camp Ground UMC with Rev. Bruce Squires and Rev. Jeff Taylor
