Three hundred former Judson students reunited in the college’s halls for Alumnae Weekend, or “J-Day,” on April 2 – 3.

Members of the class of 2004 attended the annual business meeting of theJudsonCollegeAlumnae Association and were inducted into the association.

The class of 1954, celebrating its 50th reunion, was honored at the Golden Club Banquet and inducted into the Gold Club.

Jean Woodfin Wood ofHuntsville(’47) won the Outstanding Alumna Award and Ellen Milling Arendall ofMobile(’38) won the Alumna Loyalty Award.

Wood began attending art classes at Judson at age 10. At age 12, she received a scholarship for early admission and took classes with the college students. Wood became an art teacher and was selected to work with the introduction of “multi-phases of art” in the nation’s public schools. Wood’s late husband Charles was a NASA engineer, and the father of their four children.

Arendall received her B.A. in home economics in 1938. She decided to attend Judson because her father was a trustee in the late 1920’s and he encouraged her. Arendall was the president of the college’s Centennial Class and a trustee from 1990-1994. She and her husband have two sons.

Judson’s President, Dr. David Potts, presided over the annual J-Day court in which current students compete for class recognition.

Jill Castleberry of Salena, Kan., Jodi Denham of Clanton and Amanda Jo Henderson ofDawsonwere named to the court from the freshman class.

Rachel Baird of Trussville, Ivy Kastner ofNewtonand Tara Sprewell from Demopolis were selected from the junior-sophomore class. Kenyatta Gordon of Brewton, Shea Harden of Phenix City, Catherine McPhail of Northport, Christina Ryan of Robertsdale and Ryan Whetstone of Killen were chosen from the senior class. Gordon was crowned the J-Day queen. Potts escorted her inside for the alumnae re-dedication ceremony of Jewett Hall and theHarrisonCenterfor Academic Excellence.

The college choir, The Judson Singers, performed at the rededication ceremony and Judson Ambassadors–students who represent the college and assist with official functions–worked throughout the weekend.

“J-Day went great!” said Jessica Davis Mitchell, Director of Alumnae Relations and Annual Fund. “I had a great time meeting with the alumnae. It was a very busy weekend but very rewarding.”
