LIVINGSTON-While other students are laying by the pool and enjoying the summer sun, others will be stuck in class trying to earn those extra course hours to further advance one day to walking with a cap and gown.

The University of West Alabama is gearing up for their summer semester starting on June 1 and ending on August 4.

The director of Admissions for UWA Richard Hester said he would not know the true numbers for summer enrollment or how they compare with previous summers, until Tuesday, June 1 when classes start. He said they expected to have good numbers overall though.

UWA also held its annual summer orientation on Friday from noon-2 p.m. for all the new incoming students who wanted to get a jump on their college careers, especially those who have just recently graduated. The students were showed around the campus by the summer orientation leaders and then, they played some games that helped the students get more acquainted with each other.

Amanda Anderson, Ashley Wilson and Jasmine Anderson, all from Demopolis are just some of the students that are ready to start their college journey towards a diploma.

Summer classes at UWA begin on Tuesday, June 1. The last day to add courses for the first 4-week session is June 3, and the last day to add courses for the 8-week session is June 8.
