Alabama Southern has appointed Dr. Arthur G. Ogden as its new Demopolis Campus Director.

Announced Monday afternoon by Alabama Southern President Dr. John A. Johnson, Ogden will come to Demopolis with a vast experience in education. With a bachelor’s and master’s degree in philosophy, Ogden also has a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Education. He also has experience as a teacher, administrator, coach, athletic director, division chair, college dean, and a college president, according to Johnson.

“Dr. Ogden brings a wealth of experience in a wide variety of positions and venues. But we believe that his leadership skills are just what we need to energize the Demopolis Campus,” Johnson said. “We are pleased to have him aboard.”

Ogden has served as a community college professor and administrator, as well as having served as a graduate dean.

In addition, he has had extensive experience working with accreditation of the institutions at which he has served.

“I am humbled and excited to have been chosen for this challenging position and opportunity,” Ogden said in a written statement. “Demopolis is a dynamic and progressive community looking for its very own higher education institution.

All the pieces are there for the development of innovative programs and educational advancement.

I am looking forward to getting to Demopolis with my family and getting started.”

While at International College in Naples, Florida, he established and maintained the entire liberal arts curriculum.

When he was called to serve as Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services at Auburn, he established programs which increased the overall GPA of the Tiger’s student-athletes, as well as having increased the graduation rate for student-athletes to a level which was higher than the general student population.

Ogden was also the Founding President of University of Americas, a two-year institution focusing on sports education, which is a subsidiary of the United States Sports Academy.

The new campus director could not be reached for comment late Monday.
