Betty Sloma Griffith, 67, Catherine, AL died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Visitation was Tuesday, June, 15, 2004 from 6-8:00 p.m. at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden. The Funeral services were Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Thomaston Baptist Church. The Revs. Randall Mims and Mike Allen officiated with O’Bryant Chapel Funeral directors directing. Interment followed in Linden Memorial Park. Mrs. Griffith is survived by her husband, Ralph Griffith, Catherine; two sons, Jeff (Cindy) Laduron, Thomaston and Rod (Michelle) Laduron, Demopolis; four step-sons, Ralph Griffith, Jr., Linden, James W. Griffith, Pascagoula, MS, David T. Griffith, Demopolis, and John C. Griffith, Demopolis; a step-daughter, Bridgett A. Sheffield, Thomaston; three brothers, Ronald Sloma, Clearwater, Fla, Larry Sloma, Grove Hill, and Robert Lespi, Millbrook; four sisters, Charlotte Stokes, Thomaston, Brenda Metas, Bruce Crossings, Mich., Diana Maki, Trout Creek Mich, and Carol Niemi, Bruce Crossing, Mich; three grandchildren, Christina Leonard, Nick Laduron, and Madison Laduron; one great-grandchild, Colby Leonard; 12 Step-grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild.

Pallbearers include David Stokes, Darrell Stokes, James Myrick, Trey Griffith, Jason Griffith, and Wayne Leonard. Honorary Pallbearers include: Thomas Griffith, Frankie Vick, Rickey Parker, John Griffith, Ralph Griffith, Jr., and David Griffith. Mrs. Griffith was a member of the Thomaston Baptist Church in Thomaston, AL where she was also a member of the BYKOTA Ladies Sunday School Class.

Evelena M. Mickens, 84, Greensboro died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Greensboro. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Society Cemetery, Greensboro. Washington, Paige, and Rollins Mortuary directing. The body will lie in state at the church from 12 – 1 p.m. The Rev. Nathanel Carter will officiate.

Mildred Nichols Fancher, 86, Demopolis, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, La. Visitation will be at the Kirk Funeral Home Marion Chapel Friday, June 18, 2004 from 6-8:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 9 a.m. at the Kirk Funeral Home Marion Chapel, Marion, with burial in Ephesus Cemetery, Sprott. Survivors include a son, McArthur Bassett; a granddaughter, Patricia Bassett Ewing; a grandson, John Kenton Bassett; three grandchildren: Daniel Ewing, Kathleen Ewing, and Ethan Ewing; a brother, R.V. Nichols, Marion; and a sister, Gertrude Davis, Selma. Pallbearers include: J.C. Nichols, Robert Nichols, Richard Royster, Pete Royster, Fred Smith, all of Marion, and Billy Smith of Demopolis, Ala.

Church in Uniontown with the Rev. Billy Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Uniontown, with Julia White Funeral Home of Uniontown directing.

Deacon Jessie Croom, 72, York died Friday, June 11, 2004.Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Powell Baptist Church in York. The Rev. Wesley Winston will officiate and interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 1-6 p.m. at the mortuary and an hour prior to service time at the church with McInnis Mortuary of Livingston directing.
