DEMOPOLIS-Three bombs exploded Wednesday at U.S. Jones Elementary School injuring countless children and causing mass confusion among the emergency medical services of Demopolis. Thank goodness, this was only a scenario that was discussed during a tabletop drill at the Demopolis E-911 Center on Wednesday and not the real thing, but if it did happen the services would be ready to respond.

All of the local branches of services were represented during this training session including the Public Safety Director and Demopolis Police Chief Jeff Manuel, Demopolis Fire Chief George Davenport, Mitchell Snipes with Tombigbee EMS, E-911 Director Floyd Wilson, and Captain of the DFD Tommy Tate.

This training session will help all of the local branches work together and build some common ground to work from incase of a potential disaster, Snipes said. There will be different scenario discussed during this meeting with the ultimate goal being improved communications between the branches.

“These sessions will continue until we feel that we are ready for any major incident that could occur in the City of Demopolis,” Snipes said.

The scenario of various bombs being planted at U.S. Jones allowed the group to work together with all the branches including the command center to allow for every possible life to be spared, Wilson said.

“These types of training sessions will only make us more prepared in case of something happening that would require all the branches to act as one,” Wilson said.
