MARION – Accused double-murderer Charlie Bennett’s old partner in crime was captured in Perry County.
Stanley Leon Maiten, who pleaded guilty to state and federal charges stemming from a 2002 Thomaston bank robbery, was walking down a street when Sheriff James Hood spotted him.
The U.S. Marshal Service had been searching for the fugitive since it discovered a paperwork mix up that set him free with Bennett from a state prison on May 1.
Bennett, accused in the deaths of Lawrence Alvin Smith and Kenneth Dixie near Uniontown June 19, had also been released from state custody instead of being transferred back into federal custody.
Maiten must serve an additional 147 months in federal prison for his role in the bank robbery.
