DEMOPOLIS-The second annual River City Rumble is shaping up to be the best one yet. $100,000 boats powering down the river at speeds in excess of 125 miles per hour sounds like a lot of fun.

The event chairman, Jim Parr said the races would start on Saturday and Sunday at noon and end around 6 p.m. The gates for the event will open at 8 a.m. every morning.

“We are currently scheduled to have around 60-70 racers here for the event,” Parr said, “We are hoping to double the amount of attendance from last year.”

The racers will be arriving into Demopolis Friday for boat check, tune-up, and testing. The testing period will last from noon – 4 p.m. and there is no charge for attending the testing.

“We encourage everyone to go out and watch them test their boats and hopefully you’ll want to watch them on Saturday and Sunday,” Parr said.

The situation with Marine Police Officer Pat Oliver has been resolved. During a meeting, Oliver said he would give them a ticket and as long as it was paid, then they could race, he said.

“If the racers come to Demopolis without the proper certification, then they will probably get a ticket because they have known about our policy for over three months,” Parr said.

The committee has done everything it can to protect the racers , but if they show up with the right stuff then they will answer to Pat. They even put a warning too the racers on the official ODBA website.

“I would like to personally invite all the residents of Demopolis out to the event on Saturday and Sunday and watch as these boats rumble in the River City,” Parr said.
