DEMOPOLIS – With the race for Mayor of Demopolis and the City Council heating up, the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a political forum to allow all the candidates running for office a chance to convince the people of Demopolis why they should be elected.

DACC Chairman Allen Bishop, the event’s moderator, said the political forum would give the candidates a chance to talk to the residents of Demopolis and field some questions about their vision for Demopolis.

The forum will also serve the people in helping them make up their minds on which candidate they will vote for come Aug. 24, he said.

“The format of the forum will allow all the candidates time to express their views and visions for the City of Demopolis,” Bishop said.

Each city council candidate will receive three minutes to make their speeches, then the six mayoral candidates will receive five minutes to present their speeches, and finally the six candidates will have to answer three questions each from the moderator.

There will be time for individual questions from the audience after the event is over, he said. All of the candidates have committed to attending the event, except Ben Sherrod due to a previous commitment.

“I hope the residents of Demopolis will pack the Demopolis Civic Center on Aug. 6 at 6:15 p.m. to listen to these candidates in what will be a very important election,” Bishop said.

All of the candidates for mayor consider this event a must see for all the residents of Demopolis.

Stephen Gutshall said: “This will be a good opportunity for undecided voters to come out and listen, and then maybe have a better understanding of the candidates.”

Cecil Williamson said, “The people of Demopolis should attend because there are six good candidates that are running for mayor and this will help make up their minds.”

Ed Key said, “The people need to come listen to the different views of these candidates and then they can make a solid choice for mayor.”

Mike Grayson said, “This will be an excellent opportunity for the people to come out and see the different candidates. This will probably be the only one before the election, so it’s really important everyone comes out.”

Mitchell Congress said, “The people should make an informed, intelligent decision based on platforms and vision for the City of Demopolis. That’s why everyone needs to attend the forum.”
