Tuscaloosa Post 34 swarmed all over Andalusia’s TPost 80 like mosquitoes on a summer afternoon in Thursday’s Game 2 of the American Legion State Tournament.

Post 34 racked up a total of 15 hits Thursday afternoon to take a 9-6 first round win over Andalusia and jump into a winners bracket match-up with Florence Post 11 today.

Tuscaloosa set the tone for this game early on, when James Blackburn bombed one over the left field fence in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Tuscaloosa was very persistent with the bats Thursday, as they went on to collect three runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in both the eighth and ninth innings.

But while Tuscaloosa’s bats were consistently firing at will, pitcher David Robertson’s curve ball had Andalusia running for cover.

Robertson collected 13K’s through nine innings, while giving up six runs on 12 hits with three walks and two baulks.

At the plate, both Jarrett Shepard and Seth Richards led the way for Tuscaloosa, as both collected three hits apiece and scored a run apiece. Shepard had three singles, while Richards had two doubles and a single.

Clayton Booth, Freiley Cox and Michael Livingston followed with two singles apiece along with Blackburn who collected a single and home run. Stephen Barnett added to the mix with a single, while Christopher Roberts sacrificed to score Booth in the ninth.

For Andalusia it was Daniel Wall leading the way with the stick, as he went 4-for-4 with two singles and two doubles. Roger Sightler followed with three singles, while Brock, Kelley, Justin Bracewell, Charles Maloy and Langdon Stanley had one hit apiece.

Bracewell took the loss for Andalusia going four innings earning 4K’s, while giving up five runs on seven hits with one walk.

Stanley, who came in to relieve Bracewell in the fifth, collected 3K’s, while giving up four runs on eight hits with three walks through five complete innings.

With the win, Tuscaloosa will move into the winners bracket and will play Florence Post 11 today at 1 p.m., while Andalusia will have to battle it out with Bessemer Post 149 in the early game today to see who will go and who will stay.
