Centreville exits after loss to Athens Post 49

Centreville was able to hang with Athens Post 49 in Friday’s second round elimination match-up through four complete innings, but back-to-back mistake filled innings in the fifth and sixth would end their season, as Athens eliminates Centreville 8-4.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the fifth, Centreville gave up two runs on one hit to drop 4-2. And in the sixth, Centreville would give up three runs on one hit to fall to 7-2.

Centreville only committed two errors in Friday’s game, but they were the two most costly errors of their season, as Centreville would give up a total of four on two errors.

Athens collected eight runs on eight hits, while Centreville collected only four runs on six hits.

Leading the way for Athens was pitcher Cole Thorton, who went nine innings earning 9K’s, while giving up four runs on six hits with no walks.

At the plate it would be Clay Jones leading the way, as he went 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

For Centreville it was Justin Hollis going six innings earning 5K’s with three walks.

With their first win of the tournament, Athens will move into Saturday’s third round to play Bessemer.
