DEMOPOLIS-The bank formerly known as Commercial National Bank of Demopolis has merged with a new company and taken the name BankTrust.

This may be a new name, but the bank will still offer the same service and a few new incentives to its customers.

BankTrust President Olen Kirby said Commercial National Bank merged with South Alabama Banking Company about seven years ago. Now, they’ve changed their name to BankTrust and decided to change all the names of the member banks as well.

“There are many other banks around the State of Alabama that have also changed their name including Brewton, Linden and SweetWater (September),” Kirby said.

There are many new benefits this change will have on the customers of the old Commercial National Bank. One of the new benefits would include check imaging.

“This feature will allow our customers to go online and actually be able to see their checks on the computer screen, front and back,” Kirby said.

The customers with current checks that have Commercial National Bank on them will be fine and not see any decline in service. Their next lot of checks will have BankTrust on them and so on.

Another benefit of the change will include the ability of a BankTrust customer to cash a check in various locations across the state including Gulf Shores, Foley, and Tuscaloosa.

“We would like to invite everyone to the bank on Friday for our ‘Customer Appreciation Day’ and come have a hot dog and a coke on us,” Kirby said. “The event will start at 11 a.m.”
