LIVINGSTON – An accused teenage killer was sentenced Thursday in Sumter County Circuit Court.

Granted youthful offender status by Judge Eddie Hardaway, Athony Tyrone Ormond, 18, stood before the court in the death of fellow Livingston High School student Sederick Daniels in March 2003.

Because of the youthful offender status, District Attorney Greg Griggers would not comment on the case and Sumter County Circuit Clerk Odessa Mack said the terms of sentencing were sealed.

“The case was resolved today and because he was a youthful offender, I’m not at liberty to discuss the manner in which the case was resolved,” Griggers said.

Originally, Ormond was charged with first-degree murder and could have stood trial as an adult.

In January, Griggers said that he did not disagree with Hardaway’s ruling that Ormond be granted youthful offender status, and said that Ormond and Daniels had a history of trouble between them. On the morning of the murder, Daniels had confronted Ormond and cornered him in the school’s lunchroom.

Ormond’s sentence wasn’t the only one handed down in Sumter County Thursday.

Three other people were convicted, among them a former Sumter County Commission employee convicted of forging a check on the Commission.

Clarice Smith was sentenced to five years, suspended, placed on supervised probation for five years and ordered to repay $13,850.99.

“She has to pay $250 to the county for the deductible it paid on her bond, and the balance to the bonding company,” Griggers said.

Griggers said that under the terms of the sentence, Smith agreed to pay $250 per month until restitution was complete.

A 10-time DUI offender, William Compton was sentenced by Hardaway to a three-year sentence for felony DUI, ordered to pay a $4,100 fine and court costs. His trial, Griggers said, was in late May.

Tommy Nixon, who pleaded guilty to third-degree assault charges, was sentenced to one year in prison, to serve 30 days in the county jail with the balance of the sentence on probation.
