Naomi Cooper, 78, Fairfax County, Va. died Saturday, July 24, 2004 in Virginia. Funeral services were Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Bass Tabernacle CME Church in Sawyerville at 11 a.m.. with interment in the Cooper Family Cemetery in Sawyerville. The Rev. Elzie L. Cooper officiated. The Rev Glenn Jones is the church pastor. Washington, Paige, and Rollins Mortuary directed.

James Barney Hubbard

Atmore

James Hubbard, 74, of Atmore, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at his residence. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Hubbard. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Gaye McKinney, of Centerville; son, John Barry Hubbard, of Centerville; two sisters, Ressie Earwood, of Duncanville

and Allie Simmons, of Tuscaloosa; as well as eight grand children and one great-grand child.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Enow Baptist Church in Centerville at the graveside. David Thompson will officiate and the burial will follow.

Colonel Robert G. Stewart Ret.

Fairbur, Ga.

Col. Robert G. Stewart Ret., 67, of Fairburn, Ga., formerly of Marion, Al., died in Atlanta, Ga., after a short illness. He was born on September 14, 1936 in Marion, Al. He retired in 1984 as a colonel in the US Army after serving 26 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Stewart, Sr. and Elizabeth Hoover Stewart; and a son, Charles Steven Stewart. He was survived by his wife, Pauline Logan Stewart of Fairburn, Ga., formerly of Marion, Al.; son, Richard Morgan Stewart of Seattle, Wa.; two daughters, Jennifer S. Sullivan of Loganville, Ga. and Katherine S. McNutt and her husband, Robert of Meadow Vista, Ca.; three grandsons, Corey and Logan Sullivan, of Loganville, Ga., and Eli McNutt of Meadow Vista, Ca.; one granddaughter, Chelsea McNutt, of Meadow Vista, Ca.; brother, William Henry Stewart, Jr. and his wife, Faye, of Marion, Al.; Sister, Mary Elizabeth S. Moody and her husband, Joe, of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Earline Logan Pope, of Marion, Al. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Marion United Methodist Church. Dr. James O. Speed, Jr. of Marietta, Ga. and Dr. Larry Teasley of Marion, Al. Officiated.

Willie Dee Cook Ballard

Greensboro

Willie Dee Ballard, 72, of Greensboro, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Forrest Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 4, 1932 to Robert Manley and Willie Dee Cook. After her mother’s death she was raised by Worthy Loveless and Eula Mae Cook. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1950 and married Vester Ballard on Jan. 6, 1952. She was employed by Vanity Fair for 44 years and a member of Greensboro Baptist Church. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted wife of 48 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vester Gray Ballard. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Jerry Averrett, of Greensboro, Al.; two sons, Mike Janice Ballard, of Coker, and Ronnie Brenda Ballard, of Tuscaloosa; four sisters, Marie Hartley, Naidean Johnson, Dophie Averette, and Lola McCray; two brothers, Ernest and Thomas Cook; eight grandchildren, Stephen Ballard, Andrew Ballard, Chad Averett, Rachel Averett, Jerrica Greg Breland, Leah Ballard, Adrienne Jonathon Hutson, and Brooke Justin Olvey; and great-grand child, Jackson Gray Hutson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Greensboro Baptist Church. The Reverend Dee McGuire will officiate. The burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The visitation will be Tuesday night at Greensboro Baptist Church from 6-8 p.m. Viewing of the body will be from 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Active pallbearers will be Stephen Ballard, Andrew Ballard, Chad Averett, Greg Breland, Jonathon Hutson, and Justin Olvey. Honorary pallbearers will are friends and neighbors of Greensboro and Demopolis, former co-workers of Vanity Fair, staff of Forrest Manor Nursing Home, Hospice of West Alabama, and Dr. Reginald Motley. The family request that flower donations be made to Greensboro Baptist Church.

Magnolia Chapel South Funeral Home will direct.

Frank Lucas Daniels

Frank Lucas “Baby Joe” Daniels, 66, of Eutaw died August 4, 2004, at his home.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 1:00pm at the Mt. Zoar Baptist church in Boligee.

Rev. Melvin P. Hodges will officiate and interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Visitation was held August 9 at the mortuary.
