JEFFERSON – John Essex High School has named Althus Shipman as head football coach.

Shipman replaced Pierre Goode, sacked by the administration earlier this year for failing to complete certification requirements as a teacher in Alabama.

Goode is credited with turning around the football program at the school. After missing playoffs two years straight, Goode’s team exploded in the 2003-2004 season, although their first six games of the season were forfeited due to eligibility infractions.
