MARENGO COUNTY -Amid concerns that frozen food may spoil at Marengo County High School, Superintendent Luke Hallmark said it’s time to get back to work.

Marengo County and Linden school employees should report by 8 a.m. today to their schools and students will head back to class Wednesday, he said.

“We’re still waiting on electricity at Marengo County High School,” Hallmark said.

That’s why there’s an ongoing concern about keeping the frozen foods frozen there, and Hallmark believes the food loss at the school will be minimal if power is restored by today.

“We’re very fortunate we didn’t have any major [at any of the schools]. Our biggest concern was the loss of electricity because of the freezers but we’ve been able to monitor the temperature gauges,” Hallmark said.

At Marengo County, Hallmarks said the school suffered roof damage and some downed trees, that scoreboards were downed at Marengo and John Essex and A.L. Johnson sustained minor roof damage as well.

Although the damage was light, some students may be facing a heavier load in the classroom when classes resume Wednesday. The Alabama Graduation Examination will proceed as planned, Hallmark said.
