As the West Alabama Prep Titans prepare to face the Central Christian Warriors tonight in Selma, head coach Bob Taylor is happy with the progress of his football team.

With a 3-3 record, the Titans enter tonight’s affair in a “must-win” situation as far as playoff berth.

“We’ve done alright.

We had a tough ball game last week against Southern,” Taylor said.

“But we played probably as good a first half defensively as we have all season.

We didn’t move the ball well offensively and hopefully we’ve got that corrected.

But we’re progressing pretty well and we’re in a must-win situation now, playoff-wise, so that kind of puts a little more pressure on us.”

As far as preparation for the Warriors, coach Taylor and the Titans are sticking to the basics.

“We’re just trying to work on the basic stuff,” Taylor said.

“We’re just going to try and do what we do best.

And we’re going to try to come out and hopefully set the tempo for what we’re going to try and accomplish.”

With the season a little past the halfway point, coach Taylor believes there are a few players, mostly seniors, who have stepped up as leaders for the Titans team.

“Wesley Ballard, of course, is probably our number one leader right now,” Taylor said.

“Brock Halper has done a good job and Aaron Hopper has done a real good job for them.

Those three guys have done a real good job.

Three seniors – they should be.

Some of our juniors, such as Charlie Lee, have played great for us all year long.

And if those guys continue to provide good leadership for us, we’ll be better off.”

So where will the Titans be come November?

“If we win tonight, I think we’ll be in the playoffs,” Taylor said.

“But if we lose, I think we’re pretty much out of it.

If we play well tonight and play like we did against Southern, I feel like we’ve got a shot to win.

And if we don’t, we’ll be behind the eight ball and we’ll be playing the string out, so to speak.

So this is a big game for us.”

With everyone pretty much healthy and ready to go for the Titans, tonight will be a turning point in their season.

“We just need a big crowd there tonight to pull our guys through,” Taylor said.

“And hopefully, sneak into the playoffs.”
