Halloween isn’t just for kids, and residents of the Marengo Nursing Home will prove that Saturday as they dress up and host a Halloween Trick or Treat night for area children.

“This is an annual event and it’s really a treat for the residents,” Gail Dixon, activity director at Marengo Nursing Home, said.

The nursing home will open its doors Saturday to trick-or-treaters from birth to 12 years, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“Some of the residents will be dressed in costumes, some will have their faces painted, and they are eagerly anticipating these children,” Dixon said.

She said the residents will sit in the lobby, by the nurses stations and in front of their rooms to hand out candy.

“They will all have candy, provided by the facility, and the bags will be constantly refilled,” she said.

Doors of residents participating in trick-or-treat night will be marked with jack-o-lanterns.

“We ask that children not knock on the doors that are closed,” Dixon said.

The staff will be participating as well, as many of them will dress for the occasion.

“This is one of the highlights of the year for our residents,” Dixon said. She said the residents always enjoy visits by children, and have had several this week as Linden Elementary’s second-graders came to present a program and Marengo Academy’s cheerleaders led the residents in some cheers before Friday night’s game.
