GREENSBORO – A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns put the Raiders capped off their win over Greene County High School, their second win in as many weeks in a 24-12 victory.

The game wasn’t without it’s moments, as a penalty ridden third and fourth quarter slowed play and set back both teams. It seemed good field position held by the Raider defense and special teams would erode time and time again with offensive penalties and mistakes.

But the offense, led by junior quarterback Rashad Hobson and junior Bruce Brown, would steam back with big plays and touchdowns.

With the score tied at 6 beginning the second half, Greene County couldn’t take control of the field. A penalty on fourth down pushed them back another 5 yards, leaving the team to punt from their own 18 yard line. A wobbling punt out of bounds – after a missed opportunity at a blocked punt – left the Raiders on the Greene County 45.

On first-and-ten, a holding call against Greene County pushed the Raiders to the 34 yard line four plays and first down later found the Raiders on the Greene County 10 only to be marched back to the 31 for holding.

That didn’t daunt Hobson who hit his freshman tight end Kiara Paige on a lofty pass over the middle. The 6-4, 245-pound Paige found pay dirt with 2:24 left in the quarter, posting the score at 12-6 after a failed 2-point conversion.

Hopson had struck first blood with 6:27 left in the second quarter on a 1 yard keeper. Greene County’s Rodney Jones answered back with 3:46 to go in the half on a 17-yard run.

With about six minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the Raiders would get great field position after a fourth-and-20 situation went bad for the Tigers.

With first-and-10 on the Tiger 25, two Tiger defenders would drop Hopson, at the 28 and delay of game penalty before the next snap would move them back 5 more.

Watching the Raiders prime field position slip away Brown would turn the corner on a second-and-22 sweep and put six more points on the scoreboard with 5:51 left to play. An unsportsman-like conduct call left the Raiders on the 37 going for two, which failed, posting an 18-6 lead.

Hobson and sophomore Travis Harris would connect up the middle on the Raiders’ next possession to tack on six more points with just 2:29 left to play.

Greene County would answer back two plays after the kickoff when Lorenzo Taylor would pick up a 75 yard pass

in front of the Tiger bench for the score.

In all, the Raiders amassed 168 yards rushing on 43 carries, completing seven passes for 33 yards. The Tigers carried the ball 29 times for 71 yards and picked up 102 yards on 5 of 10 passes completed.
