Sweep! Tigers pick up three wins in home series

The evening began with the Demopolis Tigers junior varsity boys’ basketball team taking on the Francis Marion Rams JV boys’ squad.

And the Tigers started the night off on the right foot, picking up a 37-30 win over the visiting Rams.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Dee Hill with 10 points.

Jeremy Harris chipped in with seven points.

The JV boys’ team returns to action tonight at home, with tip-off slated for 5:00 p.m., to take on Sunshine in game one of the ‘Demopolis Classic.’

Varsity girls’ pick up 74-57 win

The DHS varsity girls’ basketball team came out proving why they are ranked No. 2 in the AHSAA Class 4A polls.

And it didn’t take them long to do just that, as the girls’ squad rolled over the visiting Rams, 74-57, last night in Demopolis.

The girls’ built up a quick 10-2 lead and held onto a 38-23 lead heading into halftime.

With 1:22 remaining in the third quarter, a technical foul was called against the Tigers to cut the lead to 10.

But Demopolis refused to back down, as they drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter and put the Tigers on top, 57-45.

DHS began the fourth quarter on an 8-3 run and never looked back, eventually walking away with a 17-point victory.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Gabriell Essex with 26 points.

Shawnese Armstead chipped in with 16 points and K. Johnson added 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The girls’ return to action tonight at home to face Akron, with tip-off set to begin after the junior varsity boys’ game.

Varsity boys’ win in wild

fashion, 60-58

The DHS varsity boys’ basketball team entered the stadium in Demopolis last night looking to finish off the night with a clean sweep over the visiting Francis Marion Rams.

And they accomplished that mission, walking off the court with a 60-58 victory.

Things started off shaky for the boys’ squad, as both team shot poorly in the first half, with the Tigers leading 13-11 after one quarter of action.

At halftime, the Tigers held onto a slim 28-25 lead.

However, the Tigers came out shooting hot in the second half as the game came down to one final shot.

With the game tied at 58, the Tigers’ Dontrell Miller nailed the game-winning basket for Demopolis.

Leading the way for the Tigers was George Washington with 15 points.

Cedric McKinley and Miller chipped in with 12 points each.

The varsity boys’ team returns to action tonight at home to battle Akron in the ‘Demopolis Classic.’
