DEMOPOLIS – Demetric Edwards, an integral part in the success of the 2004 John Essex Hornets football team, signed a letter of intent to play football at Mississippi Delta Community College for the 2005 season.

Edwards will be joining a Trojan football team under the leadership of head coach Jay Miller after spending his high school years under head coach Al Shipman with the Hornets.

“It feels great and it’s very exciting,” Edwards said.

“I’m just so happy and I’m hoping to set an example coming from John Essex.”

This is the second John Essex football signing from the 2004 team, and coach Shipman is proud of his boys and the goals they have met.

“The second one this year – it’s a proud moment for us – for John Essex, the community and everyone,” Shipman said.

“When you see two kids that have worked hard enough and you know that they can do it, it’s just a great feeling to see them achieve a goal that you said that they could.

And Malcolm and Demetric, it’s a great feeling to have two going to college.”

The signing is great for the John Essex football program as well as the school in general, and coach Shipman plans on attending Mississippi Delta CC’s first football game to see his young player join the ranks of college football.

Congratulations to coach Shipman, John Essex, and Demetric Edwards and his family on the latest football signing in the West Alabama area.
