UWA ups record to 19-5

The ninth-ranked West Alabama Tigers upped their record to 19-5 on the year on Wednesday by defeating Stillman College (1-9) by the score of 17-0. Jonathan Lindsey led the way for UWA, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

West Alabama scored multiple runs in every inning with the exception of two and held Stillman to just five hits in the win. Brandon Dill (2-0) drew the start for UWA, and went four strong innings, allowing no runs on just two hits to go along with seven strikeouts on his way to picking up the win.

James Guilliams continued to play well for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Chase Schroeder added a pair of hits, one RBI and three runs scored, while Roberto Martinez chipped in with a 1-for-2 performance with two RBI. Brent Bolden picked up a hit and two RBI, while teammate William Crawford also added a hit and one RBI.

The Stillman pitching staff struggled with the strike zone, totaling 13 wild pitches, 14 walks and four hit batsmen on the afternoon. Brandon Murray went four innings, allowing eight earned runs on five hits en route to taking the loss. Gene McWhorter and Jerome Franks led the Stillman offense with two hits each.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday when Ouachita Baptist comes to Livingston for a 4:00 p.m., doubleheader.
