BUTLER – The Demopolis High School varsity baseball team picked up a 21-2 win on Friday night against Choctaw County to improve their overall record to 5-4 on the season.

Tyler Moody (3-0) picked up the win for DHS, pitching all five innings in the Tigers blowout victory.

Almost everyone contributed offensively for DHS as the Tigers plated 21 runs against Choctaw County.

Leading the way for Demopolis was G.W. Washington, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Seth Basinger, who went 3-for-3 with a solo homerun.

Darrell Kent went 2-for-2, Bart Pettus went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun and three RBIs, William Meador went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Clarke Kerby went 2-for-3.

Also contributing for the Tigers were Chad Schroder, Devin Goodwin, Tyler Moody, and Chris Wasson, as each of them had a hit in the game.

Goodwin’s hit was a solo homerun.

“It [the win over Choctaw County] was a big win because it’s an area win for us,” DHS head coach James Moody said.

“The big one will be against Thomasville.

And it’s also an area game, which is new this year.”

The Tigers latest baseball battle was against Thomasville last night on the road.

“Tonight’s game [against Thomasville] will be a good barometer as far as where we stand,” coach Moody said.

“I just hope we go out there and do what we need to do to win.”

The DHS varsity baseball team returns to action on Thursday night as they host Greensboro in a double-header.

First-pitch for the Greensboro game is set for 4:30 p.m.

The JV team will be back in action tonight at home in a double-header against Tuscaloosa County, with game time set for 4:00 p.m.
