Goodwin Jr. gets one more game under ‘dad’

It looks as though Devin Goodwin will get one more chance to play a game under his father and Demopolis football head coach Doug Goodwin.
Coach Goodwin will be coaching two of his players from this year’s championship team in the 18th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic on June 4.
DHS quarterback Devin Goodwin will be joined by defensive lineman Ray Williams in the 2005 All-Star game in Mobile.
Coach Goodwin helped lead DHS to a perfect 15-0 season and the school’s first 4A championship – therefore giving him a spot as an assistant coach on the Alabama staff.
Goodwin was also an offensive assistant coach for the South in the North-South game for juniors on December 21.
Stacy Luker, football head coach at Sweet Water, will join Goodwin as an assistant.
Luker helped lead his Bulldogs to the 1A championship and will join Goodwin in representing the strong teams of West Alabama.
Devin Goodwin played on the DHS football team as their quarterback, defensive back, and kicker.
Goodwin set a state record in the 2004 season, connecting for 51 touchdown passes including four in the championship game victory over Deshler.
Goodwin was also chosen as the most valuable player as the Tigers defeated Deshler 35-21.
A Class 4A Player of the Year finalist and a first-team All-State selection, Goodwin was also named to the Super 12 team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Goodwin plays baseball for the DHS Tigers in addition to his position with the football team and was a major factor in the success of last year’s baseball squad.
Williams, a 6-1, 280-lb senior, was an All-State selection and signed with the University of Tennessee Martin.
As a defensive end for the Tigers, he was a contributing factor to the stifling defense, which allowed only 6.1 points per game.
Sweet Water won the Class 1A title under the leadership of coach Luker, defeating R.A. Hubbard of Courtland 35-7.
This will be Luker’s first time to coach in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
And all the action begins on June 4 in Mobile.
