Kindergarten registration dates are just around the corner for many schools in the area.

Westside Elementary School will be the first to enroll students in Demopolis as their 2005-2006 Kindergarten and Developmentally Delayed Preschool Registration will be held on March 29-30 from 12:00-3:00.

Families with last names beginning with A to L will come on March 29.

Families with last names beginning with M to Z will come on March 30.

Each child will again need to have a Certified Birth Certificate, Original Social Security Number, Blue Immunization Form, along with two proofs of residency (Drivers license, bills with street address, etc.)

All regular Kindergarten classes will be dismissed at 11:30 on March 29-30 due to Fall Kindergarten registration.

Linden Elementary and West Alabama Preparatory School will begin their registration the following week.

Linden Elementary School will hold their kindergarten registration on April 7 and 8 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the school. Each child will need a certified birth certificate, an original Social Security card and a blue immunization form.

West Alabama Preparatory School will be accepting applications for fall kindergarten registration on Thursday April 7 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the kindergarten classroom. At this registration parents will also need a birth certificate, immunization forms (blue slip) and a Social Security card. For more information please call (334) 289-0452.

When preparing their children for registration parents are asked to consider several things. The first is whether or not the child is ready. Secondly, parents should be sure they kindergarten they plan to use is right for their child.

Kindergarten children are trying many things for the first time. Kindergarten children are active, curious learners, who need space, a variety of materials and large blocks of time to try out their ideas, gain experience and expand their learning. A high quality kindergarten program provides a strong foundation upon which children can build the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning.
