JACKSON – The Demopolis High School softball teams picked up a pair of wins yesterday afternoon in Jackson, with the JV squad winning 7-3 and the Lady Tigers varsity team picking up an 8-7 victory.

For the varsity team, Brittany McGee (11-5) picked up the win for DHS, pitching a complete game (10 innings) and giving up six hits, one walk, and striking out 12.

Brittany McGee also hit the game-winning RBI double in the top of the 10th inning to win that game for the Lady Tigers (McGee also had another hit and RBI in the game).

Also contributing in the varsity game was Brandi McGee, who had two hits and an RBI, Brittany Thorne, who picked up a two RBI single, India Chancelor, who plated a run on an RBI triple, Stewart Gross, who had a hit, and Molly Barnes, who also picked up a hit.

After taking a 7-1 lead in the eighth inning, the Lady Tigers defense let up as they allowed six runs to cross the plate for Jackson to keep the score deadlocked – this time at 6-6.

But the Lady Tigers came through in the clutch, knocking in the winning run in the 10th and final inning to preserve the DHS victory.

In the JV game, Sara Davis (4-1) picked up the win, pitching four innings (due to a time limit game) and giving up only one hit, one walk, and striking out nine.

Leading the way offensively for the DHS JV squad was Mahogany Jones, who picked up a triple, Cheryl Mock, who had an RBI single, and Lara Tucker, who plated a run on an RBI single.

The DHS Lady Tigers softball team returns to the field tonight at home against Bibb County with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
