The local Relay Committee is asking people to observe a few rules to ensure a safe, fun relay. There will be a sidewalk that runs straight to the soccer field providing an easy access to bring in tents, chairs and other items.

Relay participants are asked under no circumstances to drive their vehicles on the soccer field. They have also asked that participants do not drive on the fields to unload and to remind all team members of this.

Grills will be permitted, but it is asked that people try not to burn the grass and do not dump hot coals on the grass. The field is equipped with lights so lumination should not be a problem. Campsites should also be down and removed from the field on Saturday morning.

The Relay Committee plans to try to have the campsites marked off and available on a first come, first serve basis. There will also be an area designated on the sidelines for motorcycles to park for their display.

Thursday May 19 there are also two events being held to lead up to Friday’s main event. On this day, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Demopolis Civic Center, Bank Day will be held to allow teams to turn in their money so they can have a total by Friday.

The same night from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. the American Cancer Society also invites all cancer survivors to the survivors’ dinner also in the Demopolis Civic Center.

The dinner is being held to honor the survivors on the eve of the Marengo County Relay For Life. Survivors are also being encouraged to take part by walking the opening lap of the Relay For Life.
