YORK-Saturday’s annual celebration for the gospel radio personalities of 104.9 FM in York drew even higher numbers than anyone could have expected. Hundreds made their way to the Sumter County town to enjoy gospel music and pay homage to Deacon James and Mary McInnis, Walter Williams and the Rev. Jimmy Harris at Elizabeth Hall.

Cassandra Holder, who is helped coordinate the event said it was a huge success.

“It was wonderful,” Holder said. “Everyone had a good time and it was just a really nice event.”

Holder said the crowd was steady and by the time all was said and done hundreds had made their way to the event.

“There were probably about 350 to 400 people there,” Holder said. “People were steadily coming in. We even has a bus load of people come a little later in the night.”

The people came from all over. They came from Alabama, Mississippi and everywhere in between. Holder said some were well-known and others just wanted to participate.

“We had the famous Tina Moss out of Meridian, Miss.,” Holder said. “We also had people from Bay Springs, Laurel, Starkville and all over Mississippi and Alabama.”

While the event was geared toward fun, there was also a serious note as the guests of honor were presented with plaques and other tokens of appreciation.

However, once the honors were distributed it was time for music and fellowship.

Holder and the other organizers said they hope for even more success next year.
